Cumulus Mediocris

Cumulus mediocris (heaped, middle) is a mid-level cloud with some vertical extent, usually white in colour. The cloud pictured is shaped as a face, with wisp of cirrus to its left. Cumulus mediocris are slightly larger than their humulis (fair weather cloud) variety, and they similarly do not produce much rain. However, they can advance into larger more rainbearing cloud like cumulonimbus. Photographed in Christchurch, New Zealand.
